Free registry fix is a program that is free and says that it will fix your registry. Like many of the free registry programs on the market today, it sounds like it only has the best ideas for your computer. Let's see if the program can live up to fixing your registry, for free. The program started out like many other promising programs, with a lure to download the scan for free. I once again downloaded the scan for free, and began the installation process. This installation seemed to be smooth, and offered me no adware toolbars like many of the other free scans.
Once the download and installation was completed, I voluntarily restarted the computer as many programs are fussy to work without restarting first. I then rebooted my computer and found that the program started itself automatically. This kind of annoyed me, as I wish I could of asked it to start. Then, as I was beginning to start a scan, it spit out an error message and crashed. I opened the program again and same thing. Luckily, third time was the charm and I was able to start the program.
The scan was pretty low key, only scanning a few areas of the registry. After all, it was a free scan and not a powerful scan like many of the professional versions have. One of the funny parts about this scanner is that they offer a paid version of their program. They want to charge you in order to give you a Free try, kind of defeats the purpose of their name does it not?
Anyways, I went ahead and gave my credit card number over to upgrade. The email was supposed to only take five minutes to arrive with my license key, but took over two hours. For a while, I thought I might be getting scammed.
Once the license key arrived, I input it and the program unlocked many additional features. Sadly, most of these were just for show and had no actual use. One example would be a feature that told you what the problem was called. While this is nice information, it is included in a shorter sort in the free version.
Another is a backup reminder, not any actual backup of your registry, just a window that tells you to backup your registry before you continue. I wish they would put an actual backup in, it would be much more useful.
Removing the problems that it found on my computer was an interesting adventure. It took me just over an hour to get every problem removed, the system moved so extremely slow with this program installed. It was aggravating that I could not cancel once I had started, I had to wait for the problems to be fixed!
If you are looking for a registry cleaner, go with anything but this one. A proven registry cleaner is necessary for anyone looking to have all of their registry problems resolved.
